Strengthening Sustainability Commitment, PT GAN Supports Muara Baru Village in Developing a Village Forest Management Plan

KUBU RAYA – As a tangible demonstration of its commitment to environmental conservation and community empowerment, PT Graha Agro Nusantara (GAN) continues to play a strategic role in supporting sustainable forest management. In collaboration with the Kubu Raya Forest Management Unit (Kesatuan Pengelolaan Hutan/KPH Kubu Raya), PT GAN facilitated a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to formulate the Social Forestry Management Plan (Rencana Kelola Perhutanan Sosial/RKPS) for Muara Baru Village, Sungai Raya Sub-district, Kubu Raya Regency.
The activity, held at the Muara Baru Village Office, marked an important milestone for the local Village Forest Management Institution (Lembaga Pengelola Hutan Desa/LPHD). The main agenda included finalizing the RKPS document and restructuring the LPHD organization—both of which are mandatory requirements for Village Forest Management Permit holders to ensure legal certainty and clear management direction for the next decade.
This initiative aligns with PT GAN’s vision to actively contribute to the protection of peatland forests in the Kapuas Delta region, particularly the Sungai Ambawang Protected Forest.
The preparation of the RKPS is not merely an administrative requirement, but serves as a blueprint that will guide the community in utilizing forest resources wisely and sustainably. During the FGD, various forest utilization zones were agreed upon, including:
Timber Forest Products: Utilization of plant species such as leban, calliandra, and castor.
Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs): Management of economically valuable commodities including rattan, honey, damar resin, jengkol, petai, and a variety of local fruits.
Environmental Services: Carbon sequestration potential, which has become a key global environmental issue.
The collaboration involved active participation from various community stakeholders, including village officials, the Village Consultative Body (BPD), hamlet heads, and Social Forestry Business Groups (Kelompok Usaha Perhutanan Sosial/KUPS), such as KUPS Serai Wangi and KUPS Agroforestry.
KPH Kubu Raya expressed its appreciation for PT GAN’s contribution, noting that the company’s facilitation and mentoring support were instrumental in accelerating both administrative and technical processes, enabling village forest governance to be implemented in a more structured and professional manner.
In addition to document preparation, the forum also agreed on the restructuring of the LPHD management, which will be formally endorsed through a Decree issued by the Village Head. This leadership renewal is expected to bring fresh momentum to the organization and its associated business units.
For PT GAN, this assistance represents a long-term social investment. The company is committed to continuously supporting the Muara Baru Village community, not only during the planning phase but also throughout the implementation of community empowerment programs based on social forestry.
With the RKPS now in place, it is hoped that ecological objectives (forest protection) and economic goals (community welfare) can progress hand in hand, fostering an independent village and sustainably managed forests.
