West Kalimantan BKSDA Holds Conservation Campaign and Education on Climate Crisis and Collaboration

Pontianak - The West Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) together with a number of conservation partners held a conservation campaign and education themed "Addressing the Climate Crisis with Innovation and Justice Principles" at the Digulis Roundabout, Pontianak City, in commemoration of World Environment Day, which falls on June 5th every year.

The event was attended by various parties, including representatives from PT Graha Agro Nusantara, PT PLN, West Kalimantan Police (POLDA Kalimantan Barat), Tanjungpura Military Command (KODAM Tanjungpura), and the BEM of the Faculty of Forestry Sylva Indonesia PC UNTAN.

This year's World Environment Day celebration is not only a platform to raise awareness of the importance of environmental protection, but also a real manifestation of collaboration between the government and the private sector in efforts to conserve nature.

In addition to the campaign, BKSDA West Kalimantan also distributed environmentally friendly products to the people passing by, reinforcing the message of the need for joint action to maintain environmental sustainability.

"Addressing the Climate Crisis with Innovation and Justice Principles" was chosen as the main theme to remind us of the urgency of addressing the climate crisis through sustainable innovation and the application of justice principles in all aspects of life. This theme is also in line with the International theme 'Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience' which highlights the importance of integrated global action to restore degraded land, with significant impacts on food security, poverty reduction, and climate change mitigation.

This event is not just a campaign, but also environmental education that covers various important aspects such as the sustainability of natural resources and the protection of biodiversity.

The Head of the West Kalimantan BKSDA, RM. Wiwied Widodo, S.Hut, M.Sc., in his remarks, expressed his appreciation to all parties who participated in this activity. "Collaboration and synergy between the government and conservation partners are very important in maintaining and preserving the environment, especially in protecting flora and fauna," he said.

He also emphasized that environmental recovery efforts are not only beneficial for improving community welfare and resilience to extreme weather, but also for strengthening the sustainability of the broader ecosystem.

The peak of this activity was followed by a workshop themed "Biodiversity Protection and Bioprospect Development in West Kalimantan" which took place on June 5-6, 2024. This workshop is expected to produce ideas and strategic steps in protecting biodiversity which is increasingly threatened.

"We would like to thank the partners who support the implementation of this workshop, one of which is PT. Graha Agro Nusantara," he said.

He hopes that the collaboration that has been established today will continue in joint efforts to protect and restore the environment.

With this spirit, BKSDA West Kalimantan hopes that this year's World Environment Day commemoration will not only be a moment of reflection, but also a motivation for concrete and sustainable action for the good of this planet.
