Commitment to Sustainable Forests: PT GAN Supports Finalization of Management Plan and Strengthens Village Forest Institution in Muara Baru

Kubu Raya, As part of its commitment to protecting the peat forests of the Kapuas Delta, PT Graha Agro Nusantara (GAN) continued its support by assisting the community of Muara Baru Village in finalizing the Village Social Forestry Management Plan (RKPS). The Focus Group Discussion (FGD), held at the Muara Baru Village Office, Sungai Raya Subdistrict, on Sunday (September 28, 2025), also addressed the restructuring of the Village Forest Management Institution (LPHD).

Fully supported by the Kubu Raya Forest Management Unit (KPH), this forum marked a crucial step toward strengthening participatory and sustainable forest governance. The finalized RKPS document will serve as the official management guideline for the village forest over the next ten years, in line with regulations for villages holding Village Forest Management Rights.

The FGD was attended by various stakeholders, reflecting a shared commitment to transparent and inclusive governance. Participants included Village Governments and Badan Pemusyawaratan Desa (BPD) Muara Baru, LPHD and representatives from local Social Forestry Business Groups (KUPS) such as Serai Wangi and Agroforestry groups.

Discussions centered on two key agendas: zoning for forest utilization and protection, and finalization of the RKPS document. The plan identifies a variety of community-manageable potentials, including:

• Timber Products: Leban, Kaliandra, and Jarak.
• Non-Timber Products: Rotan, Madu, Damar, Jengkol, Petai, dan various fruits
• Environmental Services: Carbon sequestration opportunities
   

In addition to completing the management plan, the FGD also appointed a new leadership structure for the LPHD of Muara Baru. This move is expected to revitalize the organization and encourage more productive business development.

“Restructuring the LPHD is not only about institutional matters, but also a great opportunity for the community to expand productive enterprises. We hope this step will improve local welfare while safeguarding forest sustainability,” said Reza, Treasurer of Muara Baru Village.

In response, PT GAN reaffirmed its commitment to continuously support institutional strengthening of the LPHD and promote business development based on social forestry. The Kubu Raya KPH also highlighted that the restructuring process would help complete the LPHD’s administrative requirements, ensuring better and more directed forest governance in the future.

As the next step, the RKPS document will be officially ratified, followed by regular monitoring to ensure its implementation runs according to plan.
