PT PANP and PT SAM Hold Public Consultation on High Conservation Value and Social Impact Assessments

SAMBAS – As a tangible demonstration of transparency and responsible operational management, PT Perkebunan Anak Negeri Pasaman (PT PANP) and PT Sentosa Asih Makmur (PT SAM) held a Public Consultation on the results of the High Conservation Value (HCV) and Social Impact Assessment (SIA) studies. The event took place on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Sambas Indah Hotel, Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan.
Public Relations of PT PANP & PT SAM, Abdul Rahman, emphasized that this initiative reflects the company’s strong commitment to conducting environmentally and socially responsible business practices.
“The implementation of these assessments demonstrates the company’s genuine commitment to continuously integrating sustainability principles into the governance and management of our palm oil plantation operations,” he stated.
In collaboration with BIOREF of the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) as an independent assessment team, the HCV study aims to map areas with significant value in terms of biodiversity, ecosystems, and socio-cultural aspects of local communities. Meanwhile, the SIA study focuses on identifying the social and environmental impacts of the company’s activities in order to develop appropriate recommendations and monitoring strategies moving forward.
During the open dialogue forum, the BIOREF IPB team presented a summary of the identification results, potential threats, and the management plan for conservation areas. The occasion was also used by the company to reintroduce its Corporate Sustainability Policy, which includes commitments to protect HCV areas, ensure legal compliance, respect the rights of communities and workers, prevent deforestation, and prohibit land burning.
The company’s proactive initiative received positive appreciation from the stakeholders present. Uray Suryadi, Head of the Plantation Division at the Sambas Regency Agriculture and Food Security Office, welcomed the effort to fulfill regulatory obligations.
“Plantation management should not only focus on economic aspects but must also be aligned with environmental protection and the social welfare of surrounding communities, including areas with high conservation value,” Uray emphasized. Echoing this view, other local government representatives also highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration in safeguarding conservation areas.
The public consultation was attended by a wide range of cross-sector stakeholders, including representatives from the Public Works and Spatial Planning Office (PUPR), the Housing, Settlement, and Environment Office (PerkimLH), the Sambas Regional Forest Management Unit (UPT KPH), local leadership elements (Sub-district Head of Galing, Police Sector, and Military Command), village governments of Galing, Sijang, Sungai Palah, and Semanga, as well as traditional leaders and representatives of plasma cooperatives of PT PANP and PT SAM.
Through this transparent communication, the company hopes to continue building harmonious relationships with all stakeholders in order to realize sustainable plantation governance that delivers long-term benefits.
