Strengthening Business Ethics Standards, KPN Plantations Conducts Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) Training

JAKARTA – KPN Plantations held a two-day training program titled “Livelihoods & Social Sustainability” on 10–11 December 2025 in Jakarta. The program focused on deepening participants’ understanding of Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) as part of the Company’s efforts to strengthen responsible and sustainable business practices.

The training was facilitated by Dignity in Work for All (formerly known as Verité Southeast Asia), with the support of the Company’s partners as part of the Supplier Development Program, and was attended by the Human Capital team. The program was designed to enhance participants’ understanding of global labor standards and their application within the Company’s operations and supply chain, particularly in relation to the respect for human rights.

KPN Plantations’ Sustainability Division Head, Anwarsyah Harahap, stated that the activity forms part of the Company’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its management systems and mitigate social risks across its operational units. He emphasized that labor issues such as forced labor, gender equality, and responsible recruitment practices are becoming increasingly important in the context of global markets and regulatory developments.

“We view the implementation of HRDD as a long-term process that is not only oriented toward legal compliance, but also toward how the Company manages social risks and impacts in a more systematic manner,” said Anwarsyah.

During the training, participants discussed key aspects of HRDD, ranging from the identification of forced labor risks, including restrictions on freedom of movement, retention of identity documents, and potential debt bondage to the application of ethical recruitment principles as a preventive measure from the earliest stages of recruitment. The sessions also covered gender equality and non-discrimination, the importance of effective and safe grievance mechanisms, and the fulfillment of workers’ basic rights, such as fair wages and working hours in accordance with applicable regulations.

At the end of the program, participants were encouraged to develop follow-up action plans that could be implemented gradually within their respective work units.

Anwarsyah expressed his hope that the training would serve as a foundation for strengthening continuous internal evaluations, both at the operational level and in the Company’s relationships with suppliers.

“We hope that the understanding gained can be applied practically and consistently in everyday policies and work procedures,” he concluded.

Through this initiative, KPN Plantations continues its efforts to align its operational practices with the evolving global standards on sustainability and labor.
